Costs covered

When it works

When are your moving costs covered?

The authority covers the cost of a move when it is considered necessary – and when the approval was obtained in advance. These are the most common situations we see every week in Berlin and across Germany.

01

Your rent is too high

The office has sent you a cost-reduction request (Kostensenkungsaufforderung) because your flat exceeds the local limits. A move into an appropriate flat is then usually considered necessary.

02

You are starting a job

A new job, training place or study place in another city makes the move necessary. In these cases the employment agency can also participate in the costs.

03

Health or accessibility reasons

Stairs, a flat that is no longer suitable or a medically documented need can justify a move – for example into a barrier-free flat.

04

Your family situation changes

A birth, separation or a household that has become too small: if the flat no longer fits the number of people, the office can approve a move to a suitable flat.

Please note: the decision always rests with your job centre, social welfare office or employment agency – we are a removals company, not a benefits or legal advisor. What we can do is give you a quote in exactly the form the office expects, so your application is not delayed by formalities.

Direct billing

Approved once – we settle the rest with the office

Many people worry they will have to pay for the move themselves first and wait for the money afterwards. With us you don’t: as soon as the cost coverage has been approved, we invoice the authority directly.

Without us
  • You collect quotes yourself and hope the format fits.
  • You pay the removals company in advance.
  • You submit the invoice and wait for reimbursement.
  • If a document is missing, the process starts again.
With Junker Removals
  • An itemised moving quote for your responsible office to review.
  • You hand it in – we prepare the paperwork with you.
  • After approval we bill the office directly.
  • You pay nothing up front.
Direct billing

Important: apply for the cost coverage before you sign the new tenancy agreement and before you book the move. An approval given afterwards is the exception, not the rule – so talk to your case worker first, then get the quote from us.

Your process

From the application to the move – in 5 steps

The order matters. Follow these steps and your application will not fail because of a formality.

  1. Step 01

    Talk to your case worker

Tell your job centre, social welfare office or employment agency that you need to move and ask for the cost coverage (Zusicherung) – before you sign anything.

  2. Step 02

    Request your quote

Send us the details: flat size, floors, lift or stairs, both addresses and your preferred date. Free and non-binding.

  3. Step 03

An itemised moving quote for your responsible office to review.

You receive a written quote with the itemised breakdown the office needs. Most offices ask for two to three quotes – ours is ready to submit.

  4. Step 04

    Approval from the office

You hand the quote in and receive the written approval. We hold your preferred date while you wait, as far as availability allows.

  5. Step 05

    Moving day & direct billing

We carry out the agreed move. Direct billing requires prior written agreement with the payer; approval and payment responsibility must be clarified before booking.

Checklist

What you need – and what our quote includes

So that nothing holds up your application: here is what the office usually asks for, and what we put on paper for you.

Bring this to the office

  • Your benefit notice (Bewilligungsbescheid) or reference number
  • The reason for the move – e.g. the cost-reduction request or your job contract
  • The details of the new flat: rent, size, address
  • Two to three quotes from removals companies
  • Your written application for the cost coverage

Our quote puts this in writing

Every item is listed separately – that is exactly what the office wants to see.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ – Cost coverage, applications & direct billing

The key answers about moving with citizens’ benefit, social assistance or employment agency support – and when you can reach us.

+ Who pays for my move if I receive citizens’ benefit?

If your move is necessary and the authority has approved the costs in advance, the job centre (for citizens’ benefit under SGB II), the social welfare office (SGB XII) or, for a job-related move, the employment agency covers the moving costs. The decision always rests with your office – we supply the quote in the form it needs and, once approved, bill the office directly.

+ Do I have to get approval before booking the move?

Yes – and this is the single most important point. Apply for the cost coverage before you sign the new tenancy agreement and before you book the removals company. Approval granted after the event is the exception. So: speak to your case worker first, then get the quotes, then hand them in.

+ How many quotes does the job centre need?

Most offices ask for two to three quotes from different removals companies. Our quote is written so that it can be submitted as it is: every item listed separately, with the moving team, truck, transport and insurance shown clearly.

+ Do you bill the job centre directly?

Yes. Once the written cost coverage has been issued, we invoice the authority directly. You do not have to pay in advance and you do not have to wait for a reimbursement. We work with job centres, social welfare offices and employment agencies in Berlin and across Germany.

+ How quickly do I get the quote?

We prepare your individual quote after reviewing the required details. Please send both addresses, your inventory and preferred dates.

+ What is included in the quote for the office?

Your quote lists the agreed transport and moving services. Packing, assembly, storage or disposal can be listed separately for the responsible office to assess. Confirm approval before commissioning the work.

+ What happens if the office only approves part of the costs?

That happens – for example when the office approves the transport but not the packing service. We then adjust the scope with you so that the approved amount covers the move, and you decide whether you want to add anything privately. Just tell us what the notice says.

+ Which authorities do you work with?

Contact the office responsible for your case about eligibility, approval and required documents. Junker prepares the quote for the agreed moving work involving Berlin.
